Discipline Council
According to the STATUTE of Warsaw University of Life Sciences (appendix to resolution No. 84 -2018/2019 of the Senate of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences of Warsaw of May 27, 2019 on the adoption of the Statute of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences)
Par. 30. [Status rad dyscyplin]
- Discipline councils are the authorities of WULS-SGGW competent to confer doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in the field and discipline of science, within the scope of the university’s powers. In the case of awarding a doctoral degree in the field of science in accordance with the provisions of Art. 177 paragraph. 6 of the Act, the Senate is the authority competent to award the degree.
- Discipline councils are the authorities competent in substantive matters related to the implementation of scientific policy in a specific scientific discipline.
- The discipline council is appointed at WULS-SGGW for each institute, unless the statute provides otherwise. If more than one institute carries out activities in the same discipline, all these institutes are subject to one discipline council.
- The name of the Discipline Council is created by adding the appropriate name of the discipline in whole or in part.
Par. 31. [Zadania rad dyscyplin]
The tasks of the Discipline Council include:
- defining the science policy in a given discipline, taking into account the specifics of institutes;
- evaluation of the scientific activity of institutes and supervision over the scientific development of academic teachers employed at the institute;
- initiating the procedure of awarding the title of doctor honoris causa from WULS-SGGW on the terms specified in the statute;
- conducting proceedings for awarding academic degrees within the scope of their powers and issuing decisions on awarding these degrees, including the appointment of habilitation committees and committees referred to in Art. 192 paragraph. 1 of the act;
- expressing opinions on the employment of academic teachers in institutes and the professional promotion of an academic teacher;
- appointing, at the request of the director of the institute, permanent and ad hoc institute committees and defining their tasks and competences;
- evaluating the activities of the institute director, and in particular giving opinions on the annual reports on the institute’s activities;
- giving opinions on study programs in the fields of study assigned to the appropriate discipline referred to in § 14 it. 3;
- taking care of the high ethical level of institute employees and speaking out about the professional ethics of academic teachers;
- expressing opinions on matters ordered by the Rector, the Senate or the director of the institute;
- performing other tasks specified in the statute.
